After completing their statutory maternity leave, many working mothers go back to work to help support their family’s needs in these difficult times. After a few months, their baby becomes ready for weaning and mothers become concerned about what they can feed their baby that fits in with their working schedule. Some mothers have the idea of using frozen organic baby food but are concerned if this is appropriate for their baby.
An ideal frozen organic baby food should have no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Put simply, it has to just contain the main ingredient/s, and if you make your own, that is exactly what it will contain. Your frozen organic baby food shouldn’t contain salt or sugar whilst the ingredients should not be made from genetically-modified varieties.Ingredients should also be free from hazardous chemicals applied during crop (try growing your own!) or animal production.
The amount of nutrients your baby will get from eating frozen organic baby food should not be affected by the freezing process if it is not frozen for an over-extended period. It will still contain the necessary vitamins, minerals, fats, fibre and other baby dietary requirements.Babies will get all their fully balanced dietary requirements from different frozen organic baby food recipes. Consider the food pyramid in choosing your flavours; Meals should be rich in fruits and vegetables, then cereals, then protein-rich meat products. If you and your baby are vegetarian, consider feeding the baby with purely vegetables and then find a substitute for protein-rich meat, such as tofu.
Your frozen meals can be heated in a microwave oven, in a saucepan or, if travelling, simply take a few cubes of frozen organic baby food with you. And don’t forget to rotate your pre-prepared meals in your freezer so that they are not stored for more than two or three weeks. This way, you will maximise the nutritional value of each meal.
